Tague Joins Minority Colleagues in Renewing Call for Passage of Anti-Crime Measures
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) is joining his Minority colleagues from the Senate and Assembly in calling for the passage of anti-crime measures and the rollback of bail reform during this legislative session. The call for action comes in response to rising violence throughout New York state, as from 2019 to 2020 murders rose 46.7%.
Tague has been especially vocal regarding his desire to overturn the 2019 bail reform law, opposing it ever since it was proposed. Since the passage of the law, there have been numerous instances of lawbreakers going on to reoffend, sometimes committing multiple crimes after being released because of the law. Tague continues to seek its complete repeal.
“Bail reform has for far too long enabled criminals to act with near impunity in our communities, allowing them to do harm while suffering minimal immediate consequences,” said Tague. “It should be common sense that if somebody does a terrible thing once, they’re capable of doing it again. It’s time the governor gets her priorities straight and starts putting the safety of law-abiding citizens before that of dangerous criminals by repealing this dangerous law.”
