Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) joined his colleagues from the Assembly Minority Conference at a press conference today calling for the passage of the Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan (A.8481). The proposal would suspend state sales tax on several everyday goods such as gasoline, cleaning products, and prepared foods for a two year period. The legislation was drafted in response to the increased inflation impacting New York families, as gas prices have risen by over a dollar-per-gallon throughout the last year. Everyday household items have additionally seen their prices increase across the board in recent months.

“A trip to the grocery store has become a disheartening experience for many, as it seems every week prices go nowhere but up,” said Tague. “Compounding the problem, the fuels people need to fill their cars and home heating systems have skyrocketed in price compared to just a year ago, making this cold winter a very costly one for many. Today’s non-stop inflation has hamstrung the budgets of both our families and our small businesses, so passing the Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan is the best thing we can do to address this crisis head-on.”
