Tague Joins Advocates in Calling for Increase to Funding for Roads and Highways
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) today called on Gov. Hochul and the Legislature to increase funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS), Pave-NY, and the Extreme Winter Recovery Program. While funding to these programs was increased in last year’s budget, proponents of a funding increase argue they are in need of further support to ensure New York’s roads are safe and able to efficiently facilitate commercial traffic to keep the state’s economy moving.
“The well-being of our roads is tied directly to the well-being of our economy, something that should be apparent to us all at this moment, as we’ve seen our supply chains stressed to their breaking points,” said Tague. “The ability of our industries to transport their products in a safe and timely manner bears directly on our ability to fight the price increases we’ve seen on consumer goods across the board. It’s critical we invest in our roads now.”
