Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie) is calling again for an independent investigation into the Department of Health’s handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic following the Health Department’s release of its own report on nursing homes during the pandemic. Tague believes only an independent investigation will truly bring to light what led to the thousands of deaths in nursing homes throughout the state.

“Once again the governor has avoided real accountability by declaring himself innocent after investigating himself,” said Tague. “This is even worse than Moreland, because this resulted in death on an unthinkable scale. Asking for an independent investigation into this tragedy isn’t about politics; it’s about being sure that we can verify what led to this loss of life in an independent and nonpartisan way. The fact of the matter is that thousands of families lost loved ones under the governor’s watch, and they deserve all the answers we can get them as to why this occurred.”
