Tague Calls on Cuomo To Use Volkswagen Settlement Funds to Build Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in 102nd Assembly District
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie) is calling on the governor to allocate a portion of the $11 million awarded in a lawsuit against Volkswagen earmarked to build electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state towards building them in the 102nd Assembly District. Tague asserts the installation of charging stations in the district would help promote tourism in the area, which is a major sector of the regional economy.
“Our district has some of the most beautiful nature and unique agritourism attractions in the entire world and installing charging stations in our area would help facilitate tourism by allowing travelers with electric vehicles to more easily plan their trips here,” said Tague. “Between Howe Caverns in Schoharie County, the ski resorts in Greene County, the family farms and farmer’s markets found all throughout our district, and the countless other tourist and agri-tourist attractions, our district has lots to offer for people throughout the state. Given that these charging stations are being built to benefit our environment, it only makes sense that we build some in a region of our state that has so much natural beauty within it, both for the sake of economic development and to educate people about the importance of preserving the natural resources we’ve been blessed to have in our district.”
