Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie) joined members of Schoharie Kiwanis on Monday, Dec. 7 on behalf of Sen. Jim Seward and Congressman Antonio Delgado to honor the club with recognitions from the New York State Assembly, New York State Senate, and the United States House of Representatives commemorating their 70th anniversary and honoring them for the work they’ve done to serve and improve the Schoharie community. At the event, Tague presented the club’s 70 years of service award to longtime member and Kiwanis Vice President Michael Langan and also honored longtime members Bruce Palmatier and Perry Kane for their 40 years of service to the club and Gene Amedio for his 50-year history with Kiwanis.

Kiwanis has been instrumental in assisting with youth development in the area. The club constructed the Schoharie Village Pool in the 70s, using only privately raised funds and then donated it to the village and also supported the building of the Schoharie Library in the 50s. The club also continues to help fund youth programs to this day, as they sponsor several children each year in their trips to Kamp Kiwanis in the Adirondacks. Aside from helping the youth, they work to better Schoharie by planting trees, funding and working on residential and commercial projects, and decorating the town for the holidays.

At the event Tague also gave special acknowledgement to the contributions of Gene Amedio to Kiwanis and Schoharie, as he has been a member of Schoharie Kiwanis for 50 years now and has contributed to countless projects in his time with the club. Gene has been a notable figure in the Schoharie community for decades and has been instrumental in the club’s efforts to improve and maintain Lasell Park and support both the Schoharie Village Pool and Library. Even outside of club activities Gene has served his country and community in many ways, as Gene is a Navy Veteran that served in the Korean War, was President of Schoharie Little League for several years and is active in his church.

“As a member of Schoharie Kiwanis, I can’t say enough about how much the group has done to make Schoharie the great place to live it is today,” said Tague. “I am honored to both be a member of this great organization and have the privilege to join Senator Seward and Congressman Delgado in honoring such a great group of hard-working and selfless people. So, thank you to Gene and everybody at Kiwanis for everything you do to make Schoharie the best place to live it can be.”
