Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) joined his Assembly Minority colleagues in a letter to Inspector General Eric Soskin to bring to his attention an investigative report by the Albany Times Union which details an alarming potential cover-up of major structural problems on the Mario Cuomo Bridge, formerly known as the Tappan Zee Bridge.

In light of this report, they asked that he begin an investigation into the structural integrity of the bridge, and if any state officials worked to prioritize a rushed completion of the project at the expense of public safety.

“Knowing that the governor has been willing to cover-up something as serious as deaths in nursing homes, I am deeply concerned by the findings of this report,” said Tague. “For him to put the lives of the hundreds of thousands of people who use the bridge daily at risk just for the sake of rushing the project to completion and put his family name on it would be disgusting, though not surprising, given his prioritization of his personal celebrity over the well-being of the public when he covered up nursing home fatalities.

“We need an immediate investigation into the structural soundness of this bridge for the sake of public safety. If it’s found the governor had a hand in rushing this project, that’s just one more reason among several for him to be removed from office as soon as possible, whether through resignation or impeachment.”
