Tague Joins Congressman Delgado, Senator Oberacker, And Local Officials in Calling for Aid to Address Fox Creek Erosion
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) joined Congressman Antonio Delgado (NY-19), Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C-Schenevus), Town of Wright Supervisor Alex Luniewski, and Schoharie County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Federice on Monday in the town of Wright to discuss the urgent need to comprehensively address the shifting path of Fox Creek and how the erosion of Murphy Road caused by the creek endangers nearby residents.
Over the last several decades minor developments have taken place to alter the creek’s flow for the sake of minimizing harmful erosion in nearby areas, but those projects did not go far enough as to effectively prevent dangerous erosion from affecting communities along the creek for more than a few years at a time.
“The erosion along Fox Creek is something that we’ve needed to address for years, and I urge the federal government to assist us in correcting its dangerous course,” said Tague. “If this problem is left unaddressed, it will imperil the lives of nearby residents as emergency vehicles will be unable to pass through Murphy Road. It will also cost us far more money to fix in the future when it really becomes a danger to the community.”
“Schoharie County families need reliable infrastructure,” said Rep. Delgado. “Thank you, Assemblyman Tague, Senator Oberacker, and Town Supervisor Luniewski, for your shared commitment to repairing Murphy Road. Across upstate, our roads and bridges are failing – we must invest in infrastructure to protect public safety and support local economies. Our small businesses, families, and farmers are counting on safe roads to transport their loved ones and products. As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I will keep fighting for robust federal investment.”
Senator Peter Oberacker said, “Infrastructure improvements are essential to public safety and economic development. By bringing together all levels of government we can work together to help those in the Town of Wright. The issue along Fox Creek did not develop overnight and it will take a concerted effort from all levels of government to develop a long-term solution.”
