Tague And Assembly and Senate Minority to Introduce Joint Resolution to Overturn Gov’s Restaurant Mandates
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) and other Minority politicians in the New York State Assembly and Senate are introducing a joint resolution to overturn Gov. Cuomo’s arbitrary mandates on restaurants which have forced them to close by 11 p.m. and customers to purchase food with alcoholic beverages.
There is no data to support any difference in transmission rates either before or after 11 p.m., and the governor’s own data seems to contradict his asserted reasoning for his mandate. Within his own presentation, the governor stated only 1.43 percent of COVID-19 transmissions can be traced back to restaurants or bars.
According to the New York State Restaurant Association, about 1 in 6 restaurants throughout the state have been forced to close because of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown orders.
“These mandates have no base in science or common sense and have only brought pain to our communities throughout the state, as many treasured neighborhood establishments have been driven out of business by this pointless order,” said Tague. “The governor’s own data shows why these orders must be overturned. With everything our communities have lost we cannot stand to lose another job or entire family business to this pointless edict. By allowing restaurants to put food and drinks on customer’s tables, we help them put food on their own tables and those of their employees. We should be looking at how we can help restaurants do more business in these difficult times, not less.”
