Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie), is joining Assembly Minority in opposing the extension of a legislative moratorium on evictions, which Majority lawmakers aim to extend until August 31, 2021. Tague has opposed extending the moratorium in the past, as it has greatly burdened small landlords throughout the pandemic that have been unable to collect rent to pay the mortgages on their properties and otherwise meet their financial obligations.

“Small landlords have been left unable to collect revenues since March of last year while being provided minimal assistance,” said Tague. “Even as their income has dried up, their bills haven’t stopped piling up, and the pressure is putting many small landlords in a tough position where they feel pressure to sell their properties to large companies with little knowledge of the local community and the people who reside there. Small landlords know their tenants and their communities best, but by depriving them of income as the Majority members aim to do, we will see less of them in our state, and that will not be beneficial to tenants at all.”
