Tague Joins Assembly Minority in Demanding Termination of State Disaster Emergency Declaration
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I-Schoharie) is joining his Assembly and Senate Minority colleagues in demanding the termination of the state disaster emergency declared by Executive Order 202 before the end of the 2020-2021 legislative session, which is scheduled to finish this Thursday.
As of June 2, New York state’s seven-day average positivity rate was the lowest in the nation at 0.64 percent, and hospitalizations dropped to under 1,000 for the first time since October 2020. Within Tague’s district numbers are similarly low, with seven-day infection rates at 0.8% in the Mohawk Valley region, 0.6% in the Capitol Region and 0.6% in the Southern Tier region.
“As the lives of New Yorkers return to normal, the operation of our government should return to normal as well, with all of the checks, balances and democratic controls guaranteed by our state constitution,” said Tague. “The data makes clear the threat of COVID-19 has become manageable and, if we’re really governing based on science, we should act on that data and restore proper state government here in New York. It would be ridiculous to leave this declaration in effect until next year’s session, and the only person it would help or protect is Governor Cuomo.”
