Peoples-Stokes Selected as Inaugural Member of New York State’s Women’s and Girls Council
Governor’s pick follows after election as Chair of Legislative Women’s Caucus
New York, N.Y. – On Wednesday, August 2nd, at the New-York Historical Society, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the establishment of a New York State Council on Women and Girls. The council is the first of its kind in the State and is comprised a Steering Committee of leaders and advocates outside of government, along with government leaders in NYS including the Council’s Chair Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, the council’s Legislative Ambassadors are Assemblymember Crystal Peoples-Stokes of the 141st District and State Senator Cathy Young of the 57th District, and many others.
The Council will concentrate on protecting the rights of all women in New York State by focusing on the following topics: education, economic opportunity, workforce equity, leadership, health care, child care, safety, STEM programs, and intersectionality. Assemblymember Peoples-Stokes is very proud of New York’s new Council and is excited to incorporate her experience as a fervent advocate for women’s rights and the present Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus of NYS to fight for all women and girls across the State.
