Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) is announcing his support for the "Take Our Daughters or Sons to Work Day" on Thursday, April 28.

"When we take our daughters or sons into the workplace we give them a wonderful opportunity to see the many options the future may hold for them. In addition, we provide a chance for them to see that success can be theirs in any workplace," said McDonough. "I encourage all employers to participate. You don’t have to have a daughter or son, offer to take someone else’s daughter or son," the lawmaker added.

Take Our Daughters or Sons to Work Day, started in 1993 as Take Our Daughters to Work Day by the Ms. Foundation for Women and in 2003 was expanded to include sons. The program was a response to research that suggested girls, and now boys, who are strong and confident at age 11 are often insecure and confused at age 16. Take Our Daughters or Sons to Work Day calls attention to the importance of keeping girls and boys healthy, strong and confident through their teenage years and into adulthood.

The program is designed to expand opportunities for girls and boys, expose them to what adults in their lives do during the work day, show them the value of their education, and give them an opportunity to share how they envision their future. It is intended to be much more than a career day and each year workplaces and adults around New York recognize its benefits and participate in the program to support our daughters and sons, noted McDonough.
