McDonough to Host Identity Theft Prevention Seminar
Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) will host an identity theft prevention seminar at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at Levittown Public Library, 1 Bluegrass Lane. The seminar is free and open to the public.
The seminar will provide participants with methods to safeguard their personal information from thieves and what to do if they become victims of identity theft.
The event will feature guest speakers from the New York State Consumer Protection Board, Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs, Federal Trade Commission, New York State Police, Social Security Administration, Levittown Post Office and Washington Mutual.
The following topics will be addressed:
- How identity theft occurs
- How individuals know they’re victims of identity theft
- Managing personal information
- Special information about Social Security numbers
- What people can do if they are victims of identity theft.
"Anyone can become a victim of identity theft," McDonough said. "According to the Federal Trade Commission, last year alone, over 17,000 New Yorkers were victims of identity theft. I encourage everyone interested in protecting themselves from identity theft to join me at this seminar to learn new and innovative ways to safeguard their vital personal information."
