Sunday Evening Special Session Convenes With Majorities Blocking Progress
Statement by Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I – Merrick)
June 27, 2010
To combat the inaction of the majorities in both state houses, the governor, tonight, called the state Senate and Assembly into a special legislative session. Instead of accomplishing a budget, the Legislature failed to pass any legislation and, in fact, only remained in session for a total of six minutes. As we gathered in Albany on a Sunday evening, and at taxpayers’ expense, I was hopeful that we would finally have a state budget after 13 weeks of inaction. What we now need is action, we need a budget that cuts spending and reduces the deficit. I call on the Senate, Assembly and governor to work together in a bi-partisan manner to finally enact a budget that benefits all areas of New York state.
