McDonough Honors Long Island War Veterans
Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) hosted a “New York State Military Service Recognition Awards Ceremony” recently for a collection of local veterans at the Merrick Public Library. The event honored 17 veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War for the sacrifices they have made in defense of freedom.
“The fabric of our nation is held together by the sacrifice put forward by our treasured veterans,” Assemblyman McDonough said. “Without their dedication and selflessness, Americans would not be able to enjoy the freedoms and liberties that we hold so dear. Today’s event serves as a well-deserved thank you to the members of our Armed Forces.”
Assemblyman McDonough presented the veterans in attendance with New York State Service Medals, including the Conspicuous Service Cross, Conspicuous Service Star, and Medal for Merit. He stressed the importance of seizing every opportunity to honor our veterans and extend our country’s unending appreciation for their service.
“It is an honor to stand alongside so many of our nation’s heroes today,” he said. “I am extremely proud that so many veterans call New York’s 19th Assembly District their home, and I know that all New Yorkers share my gratitude toward our brave servicemen and women.”
