McDonough Joins Bipartisan Effort To Repeal MTA Payroll Tax
Assemblyman David McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today was joined by Assembly and state Senate colleagues at a press conference where he called for an immediate vote to repeal the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) payroll tax. Along with a bi-partisan group of Long Island lawmakers, McDonough once again pressed the Assembly leadership to bring Assembly bill 8193A to the floor for an up-or-down vote. McDonough, Ranking Minority Member on the Transportation committee, believes the time is now for Long Island taxpayers to see which lawmakers stand behind them in fighting to lower sky-high taxes.
“I have long been a strident opponent of the MTA’s reckless use of taxpayer dollars to subsidize poor service and increasing deficits,” said McDonough. “It's time to overhaul the MTA, sunset the payroll tax, and restore jobs in our region. Unless it is repealed, this tax will ultimately stymie economic recovery, further burden our struggling Long Island families, and continue to fan the flames of mistrust and partisan wrangling that has paralyzed our government on that and other issues for years.
“The MTA payroll tax is targeting families, employers, and the children of Long Island at the worst possible time. Albany cannot continue to fund the MTA’s poor policies, inefficient services, and faulty management. Now is the time to repeal the MTA payroll tax for a stronger Long Island and New York State.”
