I-STOP An Effective Tool To Prevent Prescription Drug Abuse
Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today issued the following statement:
June 13, 2012
Recent vote by the Legislature, to modernize New York’s anti-drug policies and adapt to the very real problem of prescription drug abuse, makes much-needed reforms to our current prescription drug laws. The creation of a real-time prescription-monitoring initiative like I-STOP (Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing), will result in a strong effort to combat prescription drug abuse and doctor shopping. While we have not put an end to this unfortunate epidemic, this action takes the necessary steps to try and prevent any additional tragic deaths of New Yorkers from prescription drug abuse. With our actions, medicine cabinets across Long Island will no longer be used as illicit drug stores.
