Department of Financial Services Offering Insurance Assistance on Thursday

Representatives for DFS to offer help to homeowners, renters and business owners

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today announced that on Thursday, December 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., representatives from the Department of Financial Services (DFS) will be on hand at the Norwich Library, 89 East Main St., Oyster Bay to provide assistance with insurance-related issues for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Assistance will be available for residents needing to contact their insurers if they have been unable to do so or to answer questions about homeowners', renters' and business owners' insurance coverage.

“As our community works to rebuild and recover quickly, the assistance provided by DFS is one of the most valuable resources for residents,” said McDonough. “I would encourage anyone who still has questions about aid and services available to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with representatives from DFS. Navigating the recovery process and ensuring your family receives the benefits they need and deserve is crucial to getting our region back on the road to recovery. I also want to remind residents, regardless of their insurance status, to apply for FEMA assistance and to take advantage of the extended application deadline.”

Residents unable to go to the Mobile Command Center are encouraged to call the Department's storm hotline at (800) 339-1759, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Insurance information also is available on the Department's website, www.dfs.ny.gov.
