Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) yesterday joined a bipartisan group of Assembly members to restore funding for the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). The legislation, which passed unanimously, will restore the $90 million in funding that was cut in this year’s state budget.

“Yesterday, we did the right thing for some of the most vulnerable people of New York,” said McDonough. “Sadly, not all in our society are able to speak up and speak out for themselves. Over the past three months, I’ve joined my colleagues numerous times to present new solutions to restore this critical funding for our most vulnerable. This was the culmination of a tremendous amount of hard work by my colleague, Assemblyman Weisenberg, and everyone involved in the push to restore this funding.”

McDonough previously supported an amendment to the budget which would have restored the funding in March.
