“I applaud any efforts to strengthen our state’s education system, but Gov. Cuomo’s proposal fails to address Common Core reform or how to decrease soaring property taxes across the board. Between unfunded state mandates and the irresponsible implementation of Common Core, school districts are struggling to stay within their budgets. Furthermore, teachers and parents are still confused and overwhelmed as classroom time continues to be devoted to testing and test preparation. This year’s focus should be on easing the burden placed on local governments, which will help more Long Island residents be able to afford their homes and help our students receive a better education.”
