McDonough: Ethics Reform Ignored By New Speaker
February 11, 2015
“The changing of the guard in Albany and election of Speaker Heastie last week gave us an opportunity to enact sweeping ethics reforms to restore the public’s faith in government. The Assembly gaveled out yesterday without a single mention of ethics legislation reaching the floor for a vote. New Yorkers will now have to wait an additional two weeks for any significant legislation to be passed. Speaker Heastie touted ethics reform as his top priority after he was elected head of the house. Now we have learned that he will focus on rent control for New York City. It appears that nothing has changed and all efforts will continue to be focused on New York City. That is unacceptable and New Yorkers deserve better.”
