“Today, we had the opportunity to pass significant rules reforms that would have shined light on the backroom deals for which New York State government has, unfortunately, long been known. Sadly, almost all of the Assembly Majority chose, instead, not to accept these amendments, introduced at a press conference by Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) last Wednesday, and voted against transparency, openness and accountability.”

“Our conference’s amendments would allow for measures such as term limits for Committee Chairs and the ability of each member of the legislature to bring one piece of substantial legislation to the floor for a vote during each two-year term. These measures serve only to improve the function of our government by allowing for increased vetting of procedures and more input in decisions that affect the entire Assembly. I am disheartened that none of these rules changes were adopted today because New Yorkers deserve a better government.”
