McDonough Calls For End To GEA, Current Teacher Eval System At Capitol Press Conference
Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today attended a press conference held by Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) in Albany calling for several major education reforms as the legislature begins its 2016 session. The press conference, attended by many members of the Assembly Minority Conference, hinged on ending the 2011 Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) education cuts, creating new state learning standards with the help and guidance of teachers, school administrators, parents and education experts, and reforming the current teacher evaluation system.
“Our current education system is not adequately serving the needs of our students, parents and teachers,” McDonough said. “Testing and evaluations are too state oriented when they should be classroom oriented, and many school districts are still struggling to meet budgetary requirements under the GEA. We have made progress on reforming Common Core, but much more work is needed, and I will continue to fight for Long Island educators and students until the system better serves their needs.”
