Assembly Majority Votes Down Ethics Reform Proposals
Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today attended a press conference held by Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) in Albany. The lawmakers introduced 17 measures aimed at changing the rules of the Assembly to increase accountability, openness and transparency.
“It is unfortunate that the Assembly Majority, once again, voted down our common-sense proposals focused on making government more inclusive, equitable and accountable,” McDonough said. “These reforms would have benefited every member of the house and deterred the corruption we saw during last year’s session. Included were measures to impose term limits on legislative leaders and committee chairs and provide equitable staff budgets. New Yorkers have lost their faith in government, and it is our job to restore it. I am disappointed by today’s events and hope we can do better moving forward.”
