McDonough Reacts to Immigration Bills, Concerned With Public Safety
A Statement from Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick)
February 6, 2017
“As a longtime advocate for public safety, I am concerned that the legislation passed today by Assembly Majority will open the floodgates for illegal immigrants to exploit our favorable social programs and cause harm to our citizens. These bills seek to buck federal law in several regards and put political grandstanding above the safety and security of New York’s families.
“We should never be using middle-class tax dollars to fund free handouts for illegal aliens bolstering sanctuary cities when our taxes are already out of control and our business outlook is abysmal. I am all for immigration when it is done legally and does not place our state’s livelihood or our citizens in danger.”
