McDonough: Gov. Abuses Budget Process for Political Gain
A Statement from Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick)
“It is far beyond time to end these games with our taxpayers’ money and pass a sensible state budget that fully funds Long Island’s education and transportation needs. We are holding hostage funding for our schools, direct care workers and thousands of employees across the state. How on Earth can the Gov. and Assembly leadership continue to delay like this? New Yorkers deserve a full enacted state budget enacted immediately.
“Legislators have been in the dark on budget talks for days and Assembly leadership and Gov. Cuomo are perpetuating this stalemate by including contentious and harmful legislation such as Raise the Age and the DREAM Act which endanger our community and provides free giveaways to illegals. We have never passed a budget extender for 60 days before and Gov. Cuomo is trying to control the process and blame the legislature for his incompetence and weak leadership.
“The nearly 2,000 page budget extender placed before us with only minutes to review before we vote represents the utter dysfunction and incompetence surrounding this year’s budget process. The Governor and New York City liberals should be absolutely embarrassed by their actions over the last few days.”
Assemblyman McDonough represents the 14th District, which includes of Merrick, Bellmore, North Bellmore, Seaford and Wantagh and parts of Levittown and Roosevelt. For more information please visit his official website.
