McDonough Announces Pet Food Drive Ending Soon
Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) is holding his annual pet food drive, which is running from now until April 18. The drive is being held in conjunction with Baxter’s Pet Pantry and Long Island Cares.
“Pets provide comfort and joy to families and young children,” McDonough said. “A loyal pet, such as a dog or cat, can provide protection and companionship for a lonely senior citizen and rejuvenate them in a way other activities cannot. Also, the pairing of a young child and a puppy can teach responsibility, loyalty and hard work and the pet will undoubtedly become part of the family.”
“Unfortunately, we’re at a time when many families are struggling to provide for themselves and their pets. One of my priorities this year is to spread the word about our cause and ask for your support for our pet food drive. I know that with your help we can generate enough donations to help pets stay at home with their families and out of shelters.”
The pet food drive is running from now until April 18. The best items to drop off are 5 or 10 pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys. Food and supplies for hamsters, fish, ferrets and all other pets are accepted. Donations will be accepted at McDonough’s district office, located at 404 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information on the drive, visit Long Island Cares website or email fooddrive@licares.org, or call 631-582-FOOD.
