McDonough Joins Senate and Assembly Minority Conferences Calling for Repeal of Governor’s Restaurant Regulations
Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) joined members of the Senate and Assembly Minority Conferences yesterday for a press conference calling for the repeal of two of Gov. Cuomo’s Executive Orders. The two orders, 202.52 and 202.74, require customers to purchase food with any order of an alcoholic beverage and force restaurants and bars to close at 11p.m. nightly.
“The governor has consistently stated that the state’s reopening would be dependent on the science and information available,” said McDonough. “There is no science behind forcing restaurants to close their doors before 11 p.m. or mandating customers order food with beverage orders. The bureaucratic red tape is stifling an already-disastrous financial landscape. We should be revitalizing this industry to the best of our ability in order to get our restaurants and bars back on their feet.”
Last week, the Conferences announced the concurrent resolutions of the Assembly and Senate terminating the provisions of Executive Order numbers 202.52 and 202.74 issued by the governor pursuant to Section 29-A of the Executive Law. The governor has announced that as of April 5, the 11 p.m. curfew will be lifted for pool halls, casinos, gyms and bowling alleys. However, no such announcement was made for the state’s restaurants and bars.
