JOHNSON CITY, NY – Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Broome County Executive Jason Garnar today unveiled a new digital sign at the Johnson City Senior Center. Assemblywoman Lupardo secured a $20,000 NYS Assembly grant and an additional $20,000 was awarded through the Broome County Small Community Fund program to complete this project.

The combined grants funded the purchase and installment of a new digital welcome sign, which will be used to inform the community about happenings at the center, such as events, lunch menus, classes, and more. The addition of this new electronic message center will allow ease of communication for center staff, provide greater visibility for the organization, and attract new visitors from the community.

In addition to the digital sign, funds were used to conduct concrete repair work of the center parking lot, including a new seal coating, a refresh of the parking lines, and the addition of new handicapped parking spaces.

The announcement comes ahead of the Center’s 40^th Anniversary that they’ll be celebrating on October 19^th. More details to follow from them.

County Executive Jason Garnar said, “From health and wellness classes, to providing nutritious meals and community events, the Johnson City Senior Center has been a great asset for Broome County for decades. Broome County is committed to providing the support necessary to ensure that this senior center can continue serving our residents for years to come. Thank you to the County Legislature for its support of this Small Community Fund grant and to Assemblywoman Lupardo for her efforts to help complete this project.”
