Albany, NY – As the Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus, I’m highlighting some important local women and their work for Women’s History Month. Our second spotlight takes a look at Beccye Fawcette.

Beccye Fawcette was a leader for women of color in Broome County. She was the first African-American employed at the Broome County Library, where she worked for 30 years. In addition to serving the community in that capacity, Fawcette was also an ordained minister at the AME Zion Church in Binghamton. Her faith compelled her to start the first gospel radio program in the community. A strong community advocate, she was the first minority to serve as Secretary for Church Women United, the League of Women Voters, and the Inter Racial Association.
