As part of a series of construction grants awarded to libraries throughout New York State, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo announced today nearly $165 thousand was awarded to two libraries in Broome County.

“Our libraries are important resources for the community,” Assemblywoman Lupardo said. “Many of the buildings, however, are aging and are in need of upgrades that will help the libraries better serve residents.”

“Broome County libraries provide vital services to our community, many free of charge,” said Broome County Executive Jason Garnar. “Thank you to New York State and Assemblywoman Lupardo for securing funding to support our public library systems and the residents who access them.”

The Four County Library System received $91,482 for interior and exterior renovations at its Vestal offices, including expansion of broadband internet service and a new generator. Additionally, the Broome County Public Library was awarded $73,125 to install LED lighting throughout its Court St. building in Binghamton.

“Our organization supports more than 40 libraries throughout Broome, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties. This funding is extremely important to helping us modernize our operations so we can better serve our member libraries and the thousands of residents who use them,” said Steve Bachman, Executive Director of the Four County Library System.

“The new lighting will save the library thousands of dollars over the course of its lifetime and will also improve the experience for those visiting our facility,” said Lisa Wise, Broome County Library Director. “Investments like these are important to keeping public libraries running.”

The awards for the two Broome County library facilities are part of 230 public library projects across New York State and are funded by a $24 million capital fund appropriation in the 2017 State Budget.
