Assemblyman Doug Smith Takes Office
Assemblyman Doug Smith was introduced this week on the floor of the New York State Assembly. Smith won the special election to fill the unexpired term of former Assemblyman Al Graf last week.
“I am honored and humbled to serve the people of this great state,” said Smith. “I bring a fresh new perspective but will continue the hard fight to make Long Island a safer and more affordable place to live, work, raise a family, start a business, and retire.”
As a certified Mathematics Teacher, Assemblyman Smith was named Ranking Minority Member of the Assembly’s Higher Education Committee which oversees New York’s public university system (SUNY) and licensing of the professions. He was also appointed to serve on the Energy Committee, Housing Committee, and Committee on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.
Assemblyman Smith’s top legislative priorities include fighting to lower New York’s high tax burden, give law enforcement the tools they need to combat dangerous gangs like MS-13, and finally bring true ethics reform to clean up corruption in Albany.
Assemblyman Smith concluded, “President Harry Truman once said, ‘It’s amazing what you can do, if you don’t care who gets the credit,’ and that is exactly how I plan to govern. I will continue to work across party lines to deliver results and provide the effective leadership that our community has come to expect from this office.”
