Flood: Proposed Budget Misses the Point
A Statement from Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port Jefferson) on Gov. Hochul’s Budget Proposal
“Although Gov. Hochul touted her ‘financially vigilant’ proposed state budget of over $220 billion, New York continues to have the highest state budget in the nation. Today, she imposed a new payroll tax that will continue to hurt local businesses especially downstate.
“Suburbs throughout Long Island and in other parts of the state are angered by her housing plan, which will take over small neighborhoods, flood them with dozens of new residents and infrastructure that is not ready for that kind of adjustment. As crucial as it is to create more housing and encourage residents to stay in our state, her irresponsible plan is only going to devastate local municipalities.
“I do applaud her efforts to provide for our schools and local infrastructure, which is in desperate need of repairs, however, I will fight against the state’s continued spending increases and the burden New Yorkers feel in their pockets.”
