Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port Jefferson) attended a press conference alongside Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski), Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt (R,C-North Tonawanda) and their colleagues in the Minority Conferences. The elected officials are calling for the requirement of law enforcement and courts to notify ICE when an arrested person or defendant is not a U.S. citizen to properly enforce immigration laws.

“Let’s be clear, this is not an immigration issue– this is a public safety concern. When you do not hold people accountable when they break the law then what good do our men and women in uniform do for our communities? If people come to our country and state legally and intend to work and provide for themselves, then by all means, we should be welcoming them, but we cannot send a message to the southern border that New York is a free-for-all. We have laws in place for a reason and that is to protect people from acts of violence. I will continue to stand with my colleagues as we address New York’s migrant crisis with a plan that works for everyone,” said Flood.
