On August 14, 2014, Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein (D-Bayside) sponsored his 2nd Annual Summer Blood Drive in conjunction with the New York Blood Center.

"Over 100 donors participated, and thanks to their overwhelming generosity, hundreds of lives were saved," said Assemblyman Braunstein. "Thank you to the New York Blood Center for all of your staff's hard work, and for providing free New York Mets tickets for all the donors. Additionally, I would like to thank Cord Meyer Development Company and the Bay Terrace Shopping Center for providing the venue."
