Assemblyman Braunstein Announces Women’s History Month Art Contest Winners
Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein (D-Bayside) announced the winner of his Women’s History Month Art Contest, which required participants to draw a picture of a woman from New York who they admire.
The winner of this year’s contest is Chaemin Lim, a 4th Grade student at PS 32: State Street School in Auburndale. Chaemin drew a portrait of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, a Civil War surgeon and abolitionist from Oswego, who is the first and only woman to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Ariel Battino, a 7th Grade student at Marie Curie MS 158 in Bayside, won 2nd Place for her drawing of Audrey Hepburn, an actress and humanitarian.
“Congratulations to Chaemin and Ariel. Over 400 students from schools in Queens participated in my Women’s History Month Art Contest, more than double the entries from last year, and I was extremely impressed with their talented drawings,” said Assemblyman Braunstein.
Both winners received gift cards from Barnes and Noble and Chaemin’s portrait of Dr. Walker will appear on the cover of next year’s contest brochure.
