Statement from Braunstein & Meng on SCA Withdrawal from Bayside Jewish Center Contract
“I am extremely pleased that the SCA listened to the concerns of Bayside residents and members of Community Board 11, as well as those raised by my colleagues and I, and has decided not to move forward with its ill-conceived purchase of the Bayside Jewish Center property,” said Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein (D-Bayside). “I look forward to working with the Bayside Jewish Center to find an appropriate organization to take over the site.”
“Scrapping plans to build a new high school at the site of the Bayside Jewish Center is great news for the community,” said Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-Queens). “I thank the SCA for understanding the concerns of residents who live in the area, and for recognizing that this misguided plan was not appropriate for this location. I hope that any future proposal for this property will be a better fit for the community.”
