On August 11, 2016, Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein (D-Bayside) sponsored his 4th Annual Summer Blood Drive at the Bay Terrace Shopping Center, in conjunction with the New York Blood Center, which declared a blood shortage emergency in June. “Thank you to everyone who braved the terrible weather to donate at our record-breaking blood drive, which my office sponsored with the New York Blood Center. Despite the heat and rain, 131 donors participated, and thanks to their generosity, hundreds of lives will be saved,” said Assemblyman Braunstein. “Thank you to the New York Blood Center for providing free pairs of New York Mets tickets to all of the donors. Additionally, I would like to thank Cord Meyer Development Company and the Bay Terrace Shopping Center for providing the venue; Ben's Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers for providing vouchers for free pints of soup to the first 100 donors; Stop & Shop for donating water and ice; and Panera Bread – Doherty Enterprises, Inc. for providing free pastries,” said Assemblyman Braunstein.
