Assemblyman Thiele Announces the Availability of Funding for Water Quality Improvement Projects
Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (D-Sag Harbor) today informed the public that Governor Hochul has announced $425 Million in grants for critical water infrastructure projects statewide.
The Water Infrastructure Improvement and Intermunicipal Grant programs are administered by the Environmental Facilities Corporation in close cooperation with the Departments of Health and Environmental Conservation. The funding announced this week includes $225 million from the governor's historic commitment to water quality infrastructure, and $200 million from the Environmental Bond Act approved by voters in 2022, which specifically named WIIA and IMG programs as tools to help leverage water quality improvement and resilient infrastructure funding. These initiatives will continue to help make water infrastructure investments more affordable for local governments, combat climate change, strengthen resiliency and create jobs in the manufacturing, engineering, construction, plant operations and related industry sectors.
Applications and full eligibility criteria will become available at efc.ny.gov on May 3.
Assemblymember Fred Thiele said, “On the East End of Long Island, the need to improve and expand water quality infrastructure is well established. We have seen way too many cased of declining water quality and contamination that threaten the public health. We must make robust investments in green infrastructure. As Chair of the Assembly Local Governments Committee, I encourage all municipalities to apply to this new round of funding to upgrade wastewater and drinking water infrastructure in their communities.”
