Last week, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (D-Sag Harbor) announced that the Peconic Land Trust is among the recipients of Governor Hochul’s Conservation Partnership Program grants.

The State awarded more than $3 million in Conservation Partnership Program grants for 45 not-for-profit land trusts across New York to support project that protect water quality and farmland, boost public access for outdoor recreation and conserve open space to benefit community health, tourism and economic development.

The Peconic Land Trust, located in Southampton, was established in 1983 to ensure the protection of Long Island’s working farms, natural lands, and heritage. Since its foundation, the organization has worked with landowners, communities, municipalities and other partners to protect nearly 14,000 acres of land, conserving more working farms on Long Island than any other private conservation organization, and securing millions of dollars from the public and private sectors for land protection. The Peconic Land Trust will receive a $61,200 grant for stewardship and resource management.

The work of the Peconic Land Trust to preserve land and protect the environment on the East End has been unmatched. I am pleased that their vital work has once again been recognized by the State, and that they are set to receive this substantial support that will go a long way in their continued fight for conservation.”
