Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (D–Sag Harbor) today announced that the Hampton Bays Water District has been awarded state aid to support drinking water improvement projects.

The Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) Board of Directors’ approved of over $185 million in direct financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across New York State. This funding, including federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) resources, authorizes municipalities to undertake essential water and sewer projects that enhance public health, environmental safety, and economic development. A significant bond sale of $189 million, combined with grants, is projected to save municipalities $125 million in debt payments, supporting 25 projects and reinforcing long-term water infrastructure affordability.

Hampton Bays Water District in Suffolk County received$2,724,000 Water Infrastructure Improvement and Intermunicipal (WIIA) Grant for the installation of two 12” water transmission mains across the Shinnecock Canal and the Shinnecock Bay.

I am thankful to the Governor’s leadership in recognizing the importance of water quality and the EFC Board of Directors for awarding a portion of this funding to Hampton Bays Water District located in my Assembly District. Protecting water quality on the East End is essential for safeguarding public health, supporting the local economy, preserving ecosystems, and maintaining the unique cultural and recreational aspects of the region. I am thrilled that so many constituents on the East End will benefit from critical improvements for drinking water made possible through this State funding.”
