Thiele: Montauk Fish Dock to Receive $120,000 from Empire State Development to Help Rebuild Dock
New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) today applauded Empire State Development’s approval of a $120,000 grant to Montauk Fish Dock, Inc. to help rebuild and expand its operation in Montauk.
Montauk Fish Dock, Inc. is a commercial fish unloading, packing, processing and distribution facility that services the Montauk commercial fishing fleet. The Dock is a staple in the regions economy as it serves the largest commercial fishing port in New York State.
This $120,000 grant will help fund the purchase of machinery and equipment, and renovate much of the commercial fishing dock which was destroyed during an electrical fire in 2012. The entire reconstruction and upgrade is expected to cost nearly $560,000.
Thiele noted, “This funding will help ensure that an historic commercial fishing dock remains a vital part of the commercial fishing infrastructure of Montauk Harbor. By expanding dockside processing and distribution services here on Long Island, we can generate economic revenue and make certain that the fishing community remains on the East End.”
