Thiele Supports Town Community Preservation Fund (CPF) Purchase of Pyrrhus Concer Homestead
51 Pond Lane should be acquired and salvaged materials returned to the site
Assemblyman Fred w. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) today announced his support for Southampton Town acquisition of 51 Pond Lane, Southampton, the Pyrrhus Concer Homestead property, utilizing the Community Preservation Fund.
The request for such acquisition has been made by the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, a not-for-profit historic preservation organization. Thiele stated that he has voiced his support for the acquisition to Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst.
Thiele stated, “The building and structures on this property were demolished with only the salvaging of historically significant materials to make way for another new home. Subsequently, the project was abandoned. We can make the best of this tragic situation by acquiring the property, returning the salvaged materials to the site, and devoting the location to research and education. This would be the outcome that would best serve the public interest.”
CPF acquisition may be made for historic preservation purposes but requires a willing seller, and the town may not pay more than fair market value.
