Senator LaValle and Assemblyman Thiele Request Full Resurfacing of State Route 114
New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle and Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. and have requested the State Department of Transportation fully resurface State Route 114 through East Hampton, Sag Harbor, and North Haven in a letter dated June 29th, 2016.
A small section of State Route 114 is already scheduled to be resurfaced from its intersection with Stephen Hands Path southeast to its terminus with State Road 27 in the Village of East Hampton. Funding for this project was appropriated in the 2015 State Budget as part of an accelerated $75 million allocation to repair widespread road damage from harsh winter weather. The State Department of Transportation has indicated that this project will be completed sometime during or before the fall of 2017. While a small section of the Route 114 project, under the railroad trestle, has been completed, the deplorable condition of the remaining section of this road needs immediate attention.
In the interim, the State Legislators note the condition of the entire length of State Route 114 continues to deteriorate; threatening driver, cyclist and pedestrian safety as there are several areas with deep and worsening potholes which pose incredibly dangerous safety hazards. As the cold and treacherous winter weather quickly approaches, the Legislators fear that this roadway will not make it through another winter season with no resurfacing planned anytime in the near future.
