Thiele Earns Perfect Environmental Rating, is Recognized for Bipartisan Leadership
Thiele is one of 10 assembly members to earn a 100% NYLCV rating two years in a row, and the only Long Island assembly member
The New York League of Conservation Voters has released its State Environmental Scorecard for the 2018 State Legislative Session. It is the second time that NYLCV has issued such a scorecard for the State Legislature. The New York State League of Conservation Voters is a statewide environmental organization that advocates for environmental legislation and endorses candidates for office.
Assemblyman Fred Thiele (I, D, WF, WE-Sag Harbor) has received a 100% score for the 2018 session. He was one of 10 members of the State Assembly, and the only member of the Long Island delegation, to receive a perfect score for both 2017 and 2018. Thiele was praised by the NYLCV for having “consistently taken courageous stands for the environment over the course of his career.”
The ranking is based upon 13 bills introduced in the State Assembly on issues relating to climate change, clean water, clean air, renewable energy, solid waste, and open space, including one of Assemblyman Thiele’s own bills relating to the preservation of farmland. Thiele either sponsored or voted in favor of all 13 bills.
In addition, Assemblyman Thiele and State Senator Kenneth LaValle were recognized by the NYLCV for their bipartisan leadership, stating: “Assemblyman Thiele and Senator LaValle have partnered on a number of important environmental causes over the years … and their efforts to work across party lines in both houses of the Legislature have benefitted all New Yorkers.”
Thiele stated, “I am pleased to be recognized by the New York League of Conservation Voters for my work on the environment during the 2018 State Legislative Session. On eastern Long Island, our environment is our economy. Our key industries of farming, fishing, tourism, and second homes cannot thrive without resources such as clean water and open spaces. I look forward to continuing to pursue these goals on behalf of my district and all of New York State.”
