Route 114 (NY-114) Resurfacing Project Moves Forward
Project enters the design phase; Construction scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2021
State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D-Sag Harbor) today stated that he has been notified by the NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) that the Route 114 Re-pavement Project has now entered the design phase. The project will repave Route 114 from Stephen Hands Path to the South Ferry within the Town of East Hampton, and the Villages of Sag Harbor and North Haven.
The project will restore the pavement riding surface by removing the existing asphalt overlay, repairing any damage to the underlying base and resurfacing with new asphalt. This project will also install and upgrade sidewalk curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Thiele has already notified community members of the upcoming project and has received suggestions for the design of the projects. Those community comments have been forwarded to the State DOT for evaluation. Business and community groups still have the ability to submit suggestions to the State during the pending design phase.
Thiele stated, “I have advocated for this project with my fellow elected officials for several years. This resurfacing is long overdue. I am pleased that I was able to secure the needed funding during the 2020 State Budget process to proceed. This is also an opportunity to make this route safer for the traveling public, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Hopefully, key safety features can also be included within the budget. Any suggestions for this project may be forwarded to my office or directly to the State DOT.
Construction is scheduled for the fall of 2021.
