Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. today announced his legislation, which would require an electronic version of a Town Clerk's sign-board on a town website, passed the Assembly. The bill would also require a link to the sign-board to appear on the town website's homepage. Both requirements are only applicable if the town maintains a regularly and routinely updated website and utilizes a high-speed internet connection. This legislation (A.6229/S.3984) is carried in the Senate by Senator Reichlin-Melnick, where it passed earlier this year. A.6229/S.3984 will be sent to the Governor for final consideration before the end of the year.

Most town residents get their information about town government and possible town actions or events from the internet rather than physically going to town hall to look at notices. By creating an electronic version of the town's sign-board, this bill enables residents to have quick and easy access to town notices, allowing them to be better-informed citizens.
