Assemblyman Thiele: Let New Yorkers Honor the Fallen with Memorial Day Parades
Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. today sent a letter to Governor Cuomo, echoing the sentiments of other Long Island legislators, urging him to allow municipalities to host parades for the upcoming Memorial Day and Fourth of July holidays. Importantly, the brave men and women who lost their lives in service to our nation deserve to be recognized for their sacrifice.
“While last year’s celebrations were scaled back to allow vehicle-only parades, New York State has since made significant progress in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and ramping up vaccination efforts,” Assemblyman Thiele stated. “Thanks to New York’s progress, significant easing of COVID-19 restrictions have already been announced and will be implemented in the coming weeks. I understand how critical it is that we continue to take the necessary steps to ensure our COVID-19 positivity rates remain low, however, if we can safely gather at event venues to watch a baseball game, we should be able to safely gather to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”
