Assemblymember Gabriella Romero Presents $10,000 to Support New Scotland Community Food Pantry
Albany, NY – New York State Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero (D, WFP) today presented a check for $10,000 to the New Scotland Community Food Pantry (NSCFP) in operating funds to support a variety of services the food pantry provides in the New Scotland area, fighting food insecurity and meeting the needs of over 70 clients.
The funding will allow NSCFP to continue the unique and effective work they do. The pantry serves residents of the Town of New Scotland and the Voorheesville Central District. However, they do not turn away anyone in need and provide 10 days-worth of emergency food assistance to residents and non-residents alike. This funding will help ensure the pantry has the resources they need to keep up with the recent uptick in clients they have received with cuts to federal funding.
Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero:
“I’m honored to be able to secure this funding for such an important non-profit organization in our community that is doing the work to help people in need. Addressing food insecurity in our area is a hands-on, collaborative feat and the New Scotland Community Food Pantry is an incredible partner that I’m happy to support. I look forward to seeing the continued expansion of this food pantry with the help of this grant.”
New Scotland Community Food Pantry Chairperson Ivan Gotham:
"We are excited and very grateful for Assemblymember Romero’s support for the services that our pantry provides to the community. We are currently experiencing nearly a 35% increase in usage of the pantry’s resources over last year. The generous support by Assemblymember Romero will go a long way in assisting us in closing that gap. It clearly comes at a time where the trajectory does not bode well for those in need, and the front line volunteer services at the local level that work directly to meet those needs are grateful for all the support that we can get."
Village of Voorheesville Trustee Kaitlin Wilson:
"On behalf of the Village of Voorheesville, we appreciate all the work Assemblywoman Romero does for our community. Her energy and commitment to public service is contagious. I know these funds are greatly appreciated and needed, as we get closer to the holiday season. I encourage anyone who wants to know more to reach out to our local food pantry to find out ways you can help."
